Letter from the Superintendent
March 10, 2020 Letter from the Superintendent:Griffith Public Schools Students, Staff, Parents, and Community:Griffith Public Schools continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation and is making the necessary preparations in case the COVID-19 impacts NW Indiana. Since Indiana colleges and universities, such as Purdue University, have already made decisions to not have students return to school after spring break or close their university, we must be prepared for our schools to be closed even though we currently have no cases in our district. We all play a vital role in reducing the likelihood of a coronavirus outbreak in our school district and community. We encourage everyone to practice good habits, including:Wash your hands regularly, especially after using the restroom and before preparing or consuming food. Wash for 20 seconds, using soap and hot water. Be sure to also wash your fingertips.Avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands or in the air. Always try to cough or sneeze into a tissue, and then throw the tissue away. If you don’t have a tissue, cough/sneeze into your arm.As much as you can, avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose.If children are feeling sick, please keep them home from school. Allow them some time to feel better so that they do not risk infecting others. Children need to be fever free for 24 hours.Griffith Public Schools will continue to communicate with you in the days to come. As always, the safety of our students, staff and families continues to be our top priority. Griffith Public Schools will continue to act out of an abundance of caution to protect everyone’s health and wellbeing.NOTE: If we should close school, please know that we are fully prepared to provide learning online. The staff and students are prepared, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that learning continues even if the learning takes place outside the classroom. Teachers have been instructed to be prepared and ensure that all devices and resources are at their fingertips. In addition, please know that if needed, cancellations of school/district events, practices, games, etc...will occur to further reduce the likelihood of a coronavirus outbreak.Griffith Public Schools has found that the most effective way to communicate this information is through email and our SwiftK12 notification system. We will continue to do so as we make decisions as to what is best for our students and staff, as well as their families and the community!
